Blake Haxton's journey is a testament to resilience and determination. Growing up in Columbus, Ohio, he discovered his passion for rowing in high school, quickly rising to become captain of his school's team. However, during his senior year, Blake contracted necrotizing fasciitis, a severe bacterial infection that led to the amputation of both his legs. Despite this life-altering event, he returned to Ohio State University, earning a bachelor's degree in finance and later a law degree.
Blake's commitment to sports remained unwavering. He joined the U.S. National Rowing Team, competing in the Arms and Shoulders single event. At the 2016 Rio Paralympics, he finished fourth, narrowly missing a medal. His performance earned him the Male Athlete of the Year award from his Olympic teammates and coaches—the first para-athlete to receive this honor. In the 2020 Tokyo Paralympics, Blake secured a silver medal in the Men's 200-Meter VL2 Final. He continued his success at the 2024 Paris Paralympics, earning a bronze medal in the same event.
