Bobby Hurley, born on June 28, 1971, in Jersey City, New Jersey, was immersed in basketball from an early age. His father, Bob Hurley Sr., a legendary coach at St. Anthony High School, guided Bobby and his teammates to an impressive 115–5 record during Bobby's tenure. In his senior year, Bobby led the team to a perfect 32–0 season, securing the school's first Tournament of Champions title and earning a No. 1 national ranking. Continuing his basketball journey at Duke University under Coach Mike Krzyzewski, Hurley played as the starting point guard from 1989 to 1993. He was instrumental in leading the Blue Devils to three Final Four appearances and back-to-back national championships in 1991 and 1992. Hurley was named the Final Four's Most Outstanding Player in 1992 and remains the NCAA's all-time leader in assists with 1,076. His exceptional performance earned him first-team All-American honors in 1993, and Duke retired his jersey number 11 the same year. The Sacramento Kings selected Hurley as the seventh overall pick in the 1993 NBA Draft. However, his rookie season was marred by a life-threatening car accident in December 1993, which significantly impacted his playing career. Despite the setback, Hurley returned to the court and played for the Kings until 1998, concluding his NBA tenure with the Vancouver Grizzlies in 1999. Transitioning into coaching, Hurley began as an assistant coach at Wagner College in 2010, working alongside his brother, Dan Hurley. The duo moved to the University of Rhode Island in 2012, where Bobby served as associate head coach. In 2013, he took on the head coaching role at the University at Buffalo, leading the Bulls to their first NCAA tournament appearance in 2015.
