Brian Baumgartner is an Emmy Award-winning actor, best known for his portrayal of Kevin Malone on NBC’s The Office. Born on November 29, 1972, in Atlanta, Georgia, he developed an early passion for performance. During his time at The Westminster Schools, he competed in national speech and drama competitions, honing skills that would later define his career. Baumgartner continued his theatrical education at Southern Methodist University, earning a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Theater in 1995. He then moved to Minneapolis, where he served as the Artistic Director of Hidden Theatre, earning multiple awards for artistic and acting excellence. His regional theater experience includes performances at the Guthrie Theater, Berkeley Repertory Theatre, Children’s Theater Company, and Theatre de la Jeune Lune. In 2005, Baumgartner joined the cast of The Office, where he portrayed Kevin Malone, the well-meaning but often clueless accountant. His performance earned him two Screen Actors Guild Awards and two Daytime Emmy Awards. Beyond acting, Baumgartner has expanded his career into writing, producing, and podcasting. He authored Welcome to Dunder Mifflin: The Ultimate Oral History of 'The Office', which became a New York Times Best Seller. He also hosts and produces the podcasts An Oral History of The Office and The Office Deep Dive, offering fans behind-the-scenes insights into the making of the beloved series. Baumgartner's versatility extends to voice acting, where he voiced Walter in Netflix’s animated series Trash Truck. His film credits include roles in License to Wed, Four Christmases, Into Temptation, and Electric Jesus. He also starred in the web series about professional turtle racing, produced by his company, 3 Bees Entertainment. This production company also created NBC Sports specials leading up to The American Century Championship, where Baumgartner served as executive producer, creator, and host. Residing in Los Angeles with his wife, Celeste Ackelson, and their daughter, Baumgartner remains active in the entertainment industry.
