Brody W Young Speaker Profile: At A Glance

SURVIVOR:

It’s plain and simple. I shouldn’t be alive. Ambushed and left for dead in the desert I found a way to survive, live, and thrive. We’ll journey through the impossible into the probable. You can’t help but see and feel ways to overcome your impossibilities to turn them into probabilities.

-Brody Wayne Young. -Earned a Bachelors of Science Degree in Psychology and a Minor in Sociology from the University of Utah circa 2003. -Summer months between schooling were spent as a professional river guide with Western River Expeditions guiding passengers on the Colorado and Green River at times(during high water) through the most intense whitewater in the lower 48 states. There’s no greater rush than having hundreds of people’s lives in your hands on a weekly basis through the summer months from 1999 to 2004. -Married and is a committed husband and father of three. Living in the tight knit community of Moab Utah has not been short of an adventurous roller coaster. (1999-present). You need a village to raise a family right! -Committed to the law enforcement profession in 2006 as a ranger for the State of Utah and received accolades such as Utah Ranger of the Year, and Utah Boating Officer of the Year in 2009. In 2011 he received the Executive Director Choice Award from the Department of Natural Resources for going above and beyond in the line of duty and inspiring so many department employees to be better public servants. -Currently a lieutenant for state rangers covering the southeast corner of Utah. -Helped create the Fallen Peace Officer Trail, the first ever dedicated trail to fallen peace officers in the country. 100% of the proceeds from the annual trail ride go towards a scholarship that fallen family members can use to further their education whatever it may be. SURVIVOR It’s plain and simple. I shouldn’t be alive. Ambushed and left for dead in the desert I found a way to survive, live, and thrive. We’ll journey through the impossible into the probable. You can’t help but see and feel ways to overcome your impossibilities to turn them into probabilities. Nine rounds. Nine bullets. Nine miracles! “Life is full of surprises and we love and aim for the ideals and sometimes forget to plan for the contingencies, curve balls if you will and they can be tragic and/or wonderful. We have the choice in how we handle it.” Such was my case as a Utah State Ranger when I began my patrol on the early evening of November 19, 2010. What happened next defies explanation. I was ambushed and shot nine times while patrolling the remote canyons outside my hometown of Moab, Utah. Bleeding out in the backcountry, I had a choice. I could let go, give up and proceed to the next realm. Or I could get up and fight back. To the gunman’s consternation, I somehow rose to my feet, despite the hollow-point slugs and shrapnel in my heart, spine, left lung, liver, small intestine, groin, colon, both arms and right hip. I returned fire and the fight was on. I share powerful lessons I learned on my journey about the value of family and friendships, the power of forgiveness, the importance of training, and trusting your gut. And fighting back. My story of survival and grit are taught at federal Law Enforcement Training Centers (FLTC) and the Utah Police Academy. I’m a testament of the late, great Greek soldier Archilocos who said “We don’t rise to the level of our expectations, we fall to the level of our training.” I fought back to wear the uniform again and my experience will bring perspective, hope and a reminder of when it seems like the sky is falling to just relax, it’s only the roof caving in. Nine Miracles will motivate and hopefully inspire you to re-think the way you handle adversity.
"I discovered Brody had a fascinating life story prior to that fateful day he was shot 9 times but now he has a new chapter that is even more intriguing and beneficial for people to hear.Brody's will to live, his life before the shooting and the way the shooting has changed his life and that of his family is a compelling story that people need to hear. Brody's miraculous survival and recovery give him the unique ability to share an important message for everyone to put to use in our lives to make every day a learning day and to live every day like it were your last but to train and live like we will live forever." "Thank you for having Brody Young speak to us today. What an inspiring, uplifting message." -Virginia- "The speaker (Brody Young) this morning was amazing! You did a great job and were spot on for our group. As I told you that day, you are the first speaker to receive a *standing ovation* from the team and we have done this meeting for years. Thanks for a great presentation & your service. Much Appreciated." -Forrest-
