Cara Mund is an attorney and public speaker who made history as the first Miss America from North Dakota. She was crowned Miss America 2018 after winning the Miss North Dakota title in 2017. Her platform, "A Make-A-Wish Passion with Fashion," reflects her longstanding commitment to philanthropy. At 14, she founded North Dakota’s Annual Make-A-Wish Fashion Show, raising over $78,000 to grant 23 wishes for local children. Her efforts were recognized by President Barack Obama in 2011. A graduate of Brown University with honors, Cara earned a degree in business, entrepreneurship, and organizations. She later graduated cum laude from Harvard Law School in 2022, where she was a teaching fellow and executive editor of the Harvard Journal of Sports and Entertainment Law. Her legal work includes over 1,000 hours of pro bono service and a focus on criminal defense. She was admitted to practice law in North Dakota in 2022. During her year as Miss America, Cara served as the National Goodwill Ambassador for Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals and worked closely with the USO to support military personnel. She also advocated for women’s leadership and empowerment, including a public call for more women in political office. In 2024, she ran for the U.S. House of Representatives in North Dakota. Beyond her pageant and legal achievements, Cara is a trained dancer who has performed with the Radio City Rockettes. She is also a passionate advocate for women’s rights and public service.
