Denise Cox Speaker Profile: At A Glance

Award-winning activist filmmaker, Top 100 podcaster and upcoming author with Simon & Schuster, Denise Soler Cox uses her expertise to create meaningful and inspiring work with a single purpose:

To transform how we think about culture, identity and what it means to belong.

Ni de aquí. Ni de allá is Spanish for…… Not from here, not from there. This was my experience growing up as a first-gen Latina in the suburbs of New York City. I never felt Puerto Rican enough and I never felt American enough. I struggled with figuring out where I belonged. Those early experiences led me to become a storyteller for millions of people as I translated my life experiences and curiosity for cultural belonging into an award-winning documentary, "being eñye". While on tour with the film, something amazing happened that completely surprised me….. Even though the film’s story is rooted in my experience of being bi-cultural, its heartfelt message of belonging connected deeply with people from every walk of life, and from all corners of the world. The universal human truth here is that everyone has had their own version of “Ni de aquí. Ni de allá” - feeling like they don’t belong. Today, I work with organizations throughout the world, from the largest cosmetic company in the world to the banking, insurance and financial industry and everything in between. I work closely with industry leaders who not only understand the powerful research behind creating spaces of belonging in the workplace but who are also invested in extending the idea of what it means to 'belong to a brand' to their customers.
This was my second time hearing Denise speak and each time her message of belonging and how to create it is fresh, her delivery is authentic and her impact lasts long after she gets off stage. Erica Roberson-Peters Vice President DE&I, L'Oréal Professional Products Division As a first generation American and a daughter of a refugee and immigrant, there was always this gnawing sense that I didn’t quite fit anywhere. It’s something I couldn’t articulate until hearing Denise speak. She “gets” cultural dexterity and why it matters. She helped me understand the value of cultural fluency and unlock (what I call) my super power so that I can be of service to others. Katica Roy CEO & Founder Pipeline Equity Denise captivated associates by describing the concept of a tangible sense of belonging. She offered insights and actionable steps, while delivering an energizing and relatable message for anyone seeking to enhance belonging at work, home, or in their community. She’s been our most praised speaker to date. Claudia Mills VP Diversity, Inclusion & Belonging Performance Food Group I have worked with Denise Soler Cox twice now for both a U.S. based audience and global audience, and her message on inclusion and belonging rang true for all participants. Her message of what it feels like to be an outsider speaks to anyone who has ever felt like they didn’t belong. Her talks whether in person or virtually are incredibly engaging and she is amazing at sharing stories and anecdotes that are relatable to everyone. Participants left with a greater empathy and a better understanding of how our cultures shapes our perspective and experiences. Denise’s passion, joy, and authenticity shine bright with every word she shares. Amber Haskell Director, Economic Inclusion Greater Boston Chamber of Commerce Her preparation in learning about the audience and nature of the conference, and your keen ability to read the room, made all the difference.
