Jonathan Haidt is a social psychologist and Professor at the Business School of New York University. He received his Ph.D. from the University of Pennsylvania in 1992 and then taught at the University of Virginia for 16 years before coming to NYU in 2011.Haidt's research examines the intuitive foundations of morality and how morality varies across cultures. He claimed it goes back to his interest in the moral basis of political and cultural divisions, a theme fully elaborated in his mega-bestseller "The Righteous Mind: Why Good People Are Divided by Politics and Religion".Haidt is also among those leading the movement of positive psychology with his book "The Happiness Hypothesis: Finding Modern Truth in Ancient Wisdom." His work has highlighted how ancient philosophies combine with modern psychological research to find the roots of human happiness and well-being.This mix of ancient wisdom with contemporary science has placed Haidt's insights at a premium in academic and corporate environments. As for the writing, Haidt has published a book, "The Coddling of the American Mind," alongside the above authors, that critically looked at some of the recent trends in education and its effects on the mental health of youth, especially Generation Z. The book will explore how new forms of protection—such as trigger warnings and safe spaces—have come to markedly change the nature of teaching on college campuses, not only undermining free speech but also doing nothing to help young people learn to deal with psychological vulnerability in the crucial early years of being inculcated into the world of higher education. His next book, "The Anxious Generation," will take that work even further to explore the mental health issues of today's generation created by overprotection and relentless social media. Another research focus is ethical leadership and organizational culture. He is the Thomas Cooley Professor of Ethical Leadership at NYU Stern and has founded, among others, Hucklydoxy Academy and Ethical Systems to bring greater public attention to these concerns. His work extends essential implications for the leadership of contemporary organizational dynamics in an era of political polarization and rapid technological change.
