Van Jones, born in Jackson, Tennessee, in 1968, is a distinguished American political commentator, author, and lawyer. He graduated from the University of Tennessee and earned his J.D. from Yale Law School. Early in his career, Jones focused on civil rights and social justice, founding the Ella Baker Center for Human Rights in 1996. He became a prominent advocate for criminal justice reform, launching initiatives like "Books Not Bars" to combat youth incarceration.
Jones expanded his advocacy to environmental justice, promoting eco-capitalism and founding the Green For All campaign. His efforts led to the passage of the Green Jobs Act in 2007. In 2009, he served as the Special Advisor for Green Jobs in the Obama White House.
