Asma Khalid Speaker Profile: At A Glance
Asma Khalid is a Washington, DC–based journalist and co-host of the BBC’s daily news podcast The Global Story, which explores where U.S. and global politics intersect for audiences worldwide on the BBC World Service. Previously, she was an NPR White House correspondent and co-host of The NPR Politics Podcast. A seasoned political reporter, Khalid has covered every U.S. election cycle since 2014 and reported internationally from countries including Pakistan, the UK, and China. Her work has earned honors from the Missouri Honor Medal, the Gracie Awards, and the Society of Professional Journalists.
Asma Khalid is the co-host of a new daily news podcast that launched this September from the BBC called The Global Story. She’s based in Washington DC, with a co-host in London — and together they tell the stories of where the world and America meet. They cover a range of issues - like the debates over free speech in the U.S. vs the UK, the global influence of Charlie Kirk, and the rise of Gen Z politics around the world.
The show airs as a podcast here in the U.S. and around the world on the BBC World Service radio reaching tens of millions of people around the globe.
Prior to joining the BBC, Asma was a White House correspondent for NPR and a co-host of The NPR Politics Podcast.
She’s a bit of a political reporting addict, covering the 2014, 2016, 2018 and 2020, 2022 and 2024 elections.
In addition to countless counties across America, Asma’s reporting has taken her to Pakistan, the United Kingdom and China.
She got her start in journalism in her home state of Indiana, but she fell in love with radio through an internship at the BBC Newshour in London during graduate school.
She's a frequent guest on TV news programs such as ABC's This Week, CNN's Inside Politics and PBS's Washington Week.
Her reporting has been recognized with the Missouri Honor Medal for Distinguished Service in Journalism, as well as awards from the Society of Professional Journalists and the Gracie Award.
A native of Indiana, Asma is a graduate of Indiana University in Bloomington and the University of Cambridge.
