A progenitor of social media, Biz has been developing large-scale systems that facilitate the open exchange of information for nearly two decades. Having started out as an artist, Biz stresses creativity, learning from mistakes, and celebrating the triumph of humanity with a little help from technology.
Christopher Isaac "Biz" Stone, born on March 10, 1974, in Boston, Massachusetts, is a prominent American entrepreneur best known as a co-founder of Twitter. Growing up in Wellesley, Massachusetts, Stone graduated from Wellesley High School before attending Northeastern University and the University of Massachusetts Boston, though he did not complete his degrees at either institution.
Stone's professional journey began in the late 1990s as a creative designer at Little, Brown and Company. He later joined Xanga as Creative Director from 1999 to 2001, where he played a pivotal role in the platform's development. In the early 2000s, Stone collaborated with Evan Williams at Odeo, a podcasting startup. This partnership eventually led to the creation of Twitter in 2006, where Stone served as creative director.
Beyond Twitter, Stone co-founded Jelly, a visual search engine, in 2014, and served as its CEO until Pinterest acquired the company in 2017. He has also invested in and advised numerous startups, including Square, Slack, Medium, and Beyond Meat. His contributions to the tech industry have earned him accolades such as being named one of Time's 100 most influential people and GQ's "Nerd of the Year."
In addition to his entrepreneurial endeavors, Stone is deeply committed to education and conservation. He teaches an annual master class at Oxford University's Saïd Business School and has participated in debates at the Oxford Union. Stone and his wife, Livia, established the Biz and Livia Stone Foundation, focusing on supporting education and conservation initiatives in California.
