Bobby Lee Speaker Profile: At A Glance

Bobby Lee is a comedian, actor, and podcaster best known for his time on MADtv and roles in films like Pineapple Express and Harold & Kumar Go to White Castle. His sharp wit and fearless humor have made him a standout in the comedy world, with appearances on Conan, The Joe Rogan Experience, and TigerBelly, the popular podcast he co-hosts. Lee has also starred in hit shows like Reservation Dogs and And Just Like That…, showcasing his versatility as a performer. With decades of experience in stand-up and television, he brings a unique, unfiltered perspective to comedy and entertainment.

Bobby Lee, born Robert Young Lee Jr. on September 17, 1971, in San Diego, California, grew up in the nearby town of Poway. His parents, Korean immigrants Jeanie and Robert Lee, owned clothing stores in Escondido and Encinitas. During his high school years, Bobby was part of a breakdancing team, hinting at his future in performance. He attended Palomar College but left before completing his studies. In 1994, after the coffee shop where he worked closed unexpectedly, Bobby took a job at The Comedy Store in San Diego. Initially handling odd jobs, he soon ventured onto the stage during amateur nights. His comedic talent quickly gained attention, leading him to open for established comedians like Pauly Shore and Carlos Mencia. Despite initial reservations from his parents about his career choice, their support grew after his appearance on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno. Bobby's breakthrough came in 2001 when he joined the cast of MADtv, becoming the show's first and only Asian cast member. Over his eight-year tenure, he became known for memorable characters like Bae Sung and his portrayal of Connie Chung. His film credits during this period include roles in Harold & Kumar Go to White Castle (2004) and Pineapple Express (2008). From 2018 to 2019, he co-starred in the ABC sitcom Splitting Up Together alongside Jenna Fischer and Oliver Hudson. In 2015, Bobby expanded into podcasting with TigerBelly, co-hosted with his then-partner Khalyla Kuhn. The podcast offers a candid look into his life and addresses topics such as Asian American issues, entertainment, and personal experiences. Building on this success, he launched Bad Friends in 2020 with fellow comedian Andrew Santino, further connecting with audiences through humor and open dialogue. Beyond his professional achievements, Bobby has been open about his personal struggles, particularly with addiction. He began using substances at a young age and faced multiple rehabilitation attempts before achieving sobriety at 17. Despite facing relapses, especially during challenging times like his father's passing in 2019, Bobby's resilience and honesty about his journey have resonated with many, adding depth to his role as a comedian and public figure.
