Brent Toderian is a globally recognized urbanist and city planner with over three decades of experience shaping cities through innovative design, policy, and strategic planning. He is the founder and principal of TODERIAN UrbanWORKS (TUW), a Vancouver-based consultancy that advises cities worldwide on urbanism, transportation, and sustainable development. Since its inception in 2012, TUW has collaborated with municipalities across Canada and internationally, including cities like Auckland, Medellín, Oslo, and Sydney, to implement progressive urban strategies.
Toderian's tenure as Vancouver's Chief Planner from 2006 to 2012 was marked by significant initiatives such as the EcoDensity and Greenest City programs, the Laneway Housing initiative, and the planning of the 2010 Winter Olympics. He emphasized creating a "complete city" by integrating land use, transportation, and public space design, fostering a more livable and sustainable urban environment. Prior to his role in Vancouver, he served as Manager of Centre City Planning + Design in Calgary, where he led the development of the award-winning Centre City Plan and advanced innovative approaches to downtown revitalization.
