Brian Setzer is a pioneering guitarist, singer, and songwriter whose career has spanned over four decades, leaving an indelible mark on the music industry. Born in Massapequa, New York, in 1959, Setzer's musical journey began with early exposure to jazz and a deep appreciation for rockabilly and blues. In 1979, he co-founded the Stray Cats, a band that revitalized the rockabilly genre in the early 1980s. Their breakout hits, "Stray Cat Strut" and "Rock This Town," showcased Setzer's distinctive guitar style and vocal delivery, propelling the band to international fame. After the Stray Cats disbanded in 1984, Setzer embarked on a solo career and later formed The Brian Setzer Orchestra in 1990. This 17-piece big band blended swing, jump blues, and rockabilly, leading a resurgence of swing music in the 1990s. Their 1998 album, The Dirty Boogie, achieved double-platinum status, featuring the Grammy-winning tracks "Jump, Jive an' Wail" and "Sleep Walk." Setzer's innovative approach to music continued with subsequent albums, including Wolfgang's Big Night Out, which reimagined classical compositions with a swing twist. Beyond his musical achievements, Setzer has made notable appearances in film and television. He portrayed rockabilly legend Eddie Cochran in the 1987 film La Bamba and has been featured in various TV shows, including a memorable animated appearance on The Simpsons. In 2006, Setzer had the honor of performing at the White House, showcasing his versatility and appeal across different audiences. Currently residing in Minneapolis, Setzer continues to inspire audiences worldwide. Despite facing challenges due to an autoimmune disease that has affected his ability to play guitar, he remains optimistic about his recovery and future musical endeavors. Setzer's enduring influence and commitment to his craft solidify his status as a respected figure in the music industry, admired for his innovation, passion, and resilience.
