Brooke Gladstone is a seasoned journalist, author, and media analyst best known as the co-host and managing editor of WNYC’s Peabody Award-winning program, On the Media. Born in Long Island, New York, Gladstone grew up in Syosset before moving to Vermont, where she graduated from the University of Vermont in 1978 with a degree in theater. Her early career included reporting on defense policy, broadcasting, and cable TV for various publications. In 1987, she joined NPR as an editor for Weekend Edition with Scott Simon and later became senior editor of All Things Considered. In 1991, she was awarded a Knight Fellowship at Stanford University, focusing on Russian language and history, which led to her reporting from Moscow during the early 1990s.
In 2000, Gladstone helped relaunch On the Media, transforming it into a nationally syndicated program that critically examines the media's role in society. Under her leadership, the show has garnered numerous accolades and a dedicated audience.
Beyond radio, Gladstone is the author of The Influencing Machine, a graphic nonfiction book illustrated by Josh Neufeld that explores the history and impact of media.
