Bud Dupree is a professional football linebacker for the Los Angeles Chargers, currently in his 10th NFL season. Born on February 12, 1993, in Macon, Georgia, he grew up in Toomsboro and attended Wilkinson County High School, where he excelled in both football and basketball. Initially recruited as a tight end, Dupree transitioned to defense during his freshman year at the University of Kentucky, a move that would define his career. He played four seasons for the Wildcats, earning First-team All-SEC honors in 2014 and graduating with a degree in community and leadership development. In the 2015 NFL Draft, Dupree was selected by the Pittsburgh Steelers in the first round, 22nd overall. He made an immediate impact, recording a sack in his debut against Tom Brady and earning the Steelers' top rookie honor that season. Over six seasons with Pittsburgh, Dupree developed into a key defensive leader, highlighted by a career-best 11.5 sacks in 2019. His tenure with the Steelers was marked by his relentless pass rush and leadership on and off the field. In 2021, Dupree signed a five-year, $82.5 million contract with the Tennessee Titans. While his time in Tennessee was challenging, he rebounded in 2023 with the Atlanta Falcons, leading the team in sacks with 6.5 and starting all 16 games. In May 2024, he joined the Los Angeles Chargers, aiming to bolster their pass rush alongside stars Joey Bosa and Khalil Mack. Dupree's career statistics include 305 tackles, 53 sacks, and 70 tackles for loss over 119 games. Off the field, Dupree is deeply committed to his community. He frequently returns to Middle Georgia to host football camps, visit hospitals, and support local initiatives. In 2023, he was honored as the grand marshal of Macon's inaugural Juneteenth parade. Additionally, he owns Vibez, a popular restaurant in downtown Macon that has provided employment opportunities for many in the area. Dupree's blend of athletic prowess and community engagement makes him a respected figure both in sports and in his hometown.
