Carmen Perez is a prominent civil rights leader and activist dedicated to advancing gender equity and social justice. She serves as a national co-chair of the Women’s March, one of the largest grassroots movements in recent history. Perez has been instrumental in advocating for marginalized communities and shaping public policy on equality issues. Her leadership and commitment have earned her recognition across the nation. She speaks widely on topics related to civil rights, inclusion, and women's empowerment.

Carmen Perez-Jordan is a Chicana activist and the President & CEO of The Gathering for Justice, a nonprofit organization founded by Harry Belafonte dedicated to ending child incarceration and eliminating racial disparities in the criminal justice system. Born in Oxnard, California, in 1977, Perez-Jordan was deeply influenced by personal tragedy—the loss of her sister at the age of 17—which propelled her into a lifelong commitment to social justice and restorative practices. She pursued higher education at Oxnard College and the University of California, Santa Cruz, where she majored in psychology and Chicana feminism, experiences that solidified her dedication to intersectional leadership. In 2005, Perez-Jordan joined The Gathering for Justice, initially serving as a youth representative and later becoming a board member of Barrios Unidos. Her work has focused on providing alternatives to incarceration for youth, promoting racial healing, and advocating for community policing reforms. She has collaborated with notable figures such as Danny Glover, America Ferrera, and Colin Kaepernick, and has been instrumental in organizing initiatives like the Justice League NYC, which addresses issues of police brutality and mass incarceration. Perez-Jordan gained national prominence as one of the four national co-chairs of the 2017 Women’s March on Washington, which mobilized over 5 million people worldwide. In this role, she facilitated the creation of the Unity Principles and led the Artist Table and Honorary Co-Chair selection processes. Her leadership extended to the development of the Women’s Agenda, a 24-point federal policy plan aimed at addressing the urgent needs of communities, marking the first national feminist platform of its kind. Throughout her career, Perez-Jordan has been recognized for her contributions to civil rights and social justice. She has been named one of Time's 100 Most Influential People, Fortune's 50 Top World Leaders, and Glamour's Women of the Year. Additionally, she has received awards such as the Gutsy Award from the National Juvenile Justice Network and a Certificate of Special Congressional Recognition for Outstanding and Invaluable Service to the Community. Beyond her organizational roles, Perez-Jordan is a sought-after speaker, sharing her insights on topics including mass incarceration, gender equity, and racial justice. Her work continues to inspire and mobilize individuals and communities toward meaningful social change.
