Jay Leno Speaker Profile: At A Glance

Jay Leno is an acclaimed TV late night show host, admired stand-up comedian, best-selling children’s book author, TV and movie voice-over artist, pioneering car builder and mechanic, and philanthropist. He has been honored by the Television Academy with an Emmy for “Outstanding Comedy, Variety or Music Series.” “The Tonight Show with Jay Leno” has also taken home the trophy for “Favorite Late Night Show” in the annual TV Guide Awards determined by voting viewers, and he was recently installed in the Television Academy’s Broadcast Hall of Fame. He currently produces and stars in “Jay Leno’s Garage.”

Jay Leno is an American comedian, actor, writer, producer, and former late-night television host. After doing stand-up comedy for years, he became the host of NBC's The Tonight Show with Jay Leno from 1992 to 2009. Beginning in September 2009, Leno started a primetime talk show, titled The Jay Leno Show, which aired weeknights at 10:00 pm ET, also on NBC. After The Jay Leno Show was canceled in January 2010 amid a host controversy, Leno returned to host The Tonight Show with Jay Leno on March 1, 2010. He hosted his last episode of The Tonight Show on February 6, 2014. That year, he was inducted into the Television Hall of Fame. Since 2014, Leno has hosted Jay Leno's Garage. The series explores our obsession with all things automotive. From classic cars to supercars and everything in-between, Jay hits the road to discover the most exciting, weird, and wonderful vehicles ever made and meet the passionate people behind their wheels. Each one-hour themed episode features a mix of stunts, challenges, reviews, and celebrity interviews, showcasing the colorful history of the automobile. Whether exploring the story of an iconic brand, road-testing the newest supercar, or investigating the latest automotive innovations, there is no wheel Jay won't get behind to tell the story of our love affair with the car. Leno himself is the recipient of the People’s Choice Award and other honors, including the Harris Poll selection as the most popular star on television. Other personal highlights include the Hasty Pudding Award at Harvard University, receiving a star on Hollywood’s Walk of Fame, and being the first person to drive the pace car at all major NASCAR events. An indefatigable performer, Leno loves to test his humor live on audiences across the nation, performing over 100 live appearances in nightclubs, theaters, and stadiums each year. He has been touted as one of the nicest people in show business and the hardest-working—a winning tandem for the man who says, “Anyone can have a life – careers are hard to come by!” When he is not performing, writing, or doing charitable work, Jay stays busy doing voice-over work in movies like Cars and Igor and the hit TV show The Fairly Oddparents (Nickelodeon), where the character “The Crimson Chin,” a superhero with a chin with superpowers, was inspired by Leno’s own noted jawline. He is also a much-in-demand corporate speaker for companies including General Motors, and a monthly columnist in Popular Mechanics. In his spare time, he enjoys working on his collection of classic cars and motorcycles. In fact, he has built several cars, including an acclaimed eco-car in his eco-friendly green garage.
