She is best known for her tenure as the head coach of the U.S. Women's National Soccer Team (USWNT), where she led the team to unprecedented success, including back-to-back FIFA Women's World Cup victories in 2015 and 2019. Her remarkable coaching career also includes a record of 106 wins, seven losses, and 19 ties, making her the most successful coach in the history of U.S. soccer.
Born in Portsmouth, England, Ellis moved to the United States at the age of 15 and later attended the College of William and Mary. There, she excelled both academically, earning a degree in Literature and Composition, and athletically, as a standout forward for the women's soccer team. Her leadership skills were evident early on, and she transitioned seamlessly from player to coach, eventually spending 12 years as the head coach at UCLA, where she guided the team to multiple NCAA College Cup appearances and six consecutive Pac-10 Championships.
Beyond her coaching accolades, Ellis is a prominent advocate for gender equality and leadership development.
