General Lori J. Robinson retired from the U.S. Air Force in 2018 after a remarkable 37-year career, marked by numerous historic achievements. She made history as the first woman to command a major Unified Combatant Command when she led North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD) and U.S. Northern Command (NORTHCOM). In this role, she was responsible for overseeing the defense of the United States and Canada, commanding 1,600 personnel, including soldiers, sailors, airmen, marines, coast guardsmen, and civilians.
Before her command at NORAD and NORTHCOM, General Robinson served as the Commander of Pacific Air Forces, where she managed 45,000 airmen to deliver combat air power across the Pacific Theater. Her career also includes key roles such as the Director of Joint Capabilities Development on the Joint Chiefs of Staff and the Director of Air Force Legislative Liaison on Capitol Hill, where she handled significant budget and policy issues.
A graduate of the University of New Hampshire with a BA in English, she also holds two master’s degrees: one in education leadership and management from Troy State University and another in national security and strategic studies from the Naval War College. Throughout her career, she attended prestigious programs including the Air War College, the Brookings Institution, and Harvard University’s Senior Executive Fellows Program.
