Natasha S. Alford is an award-winning journalist, author, and media executive whose work sits at the intersection of democracy, culture, and leadership. A former CNN political analyst, she is Senior Vice President and Chief Content Officer at TheGrio, one of the nation’s largest Black-owned media platforms. A trusted national voice, Natasha regularly appears on television translating complex political and cultural issues. She is the author of American Negra (HarperCollins, 2024). A graduate of Harvard, Princeton, and Northwestern, she is also an experienced moderator, keynote speaker, lupus health advocate and board president.

A former CNN political analyst, Natasha currently serves as Senior Vice President and Chief Content Officer at TheGrio, one of the nation’s largest Black-owned media platforms, where she oversees national coverage on politics, race, culture, and social justice. She is a trusted national voice, regularly appearing on television and moderating high-level conversations that translate complex political and cultural issues into clear, compelling insights for broad audiences.
In 2019, Natasha was selected as a Pulitzer Center for Crisis Reporting grantee and used the grant to executive produce the Amazon Prime Video documentary Afro-Latinx Revolution: Puerto Rico (2020), which explores the complexities of Afro-Latin identity. In 2020, she received a Black Voices for Black Justice grant for her journalism and announced the creation of a scholarship supporting aspiring journalists of color.
Her honors include being a 2020 Poynter Women’s Leadership Academy graduate, a 2019 Maynard 200 Fellow, and a recipient of the 2017 Harvard Women’s Leadership Award. Natasha’s TEDx talk, The Courage to Report, reflects on her experience as a local TV news reporter navigating the digital era and the rise of the Black Lives Matter movement.
Natasha’s work has been featured in major outlets including CNN, The New York Times, The Guardian, Oprah Daily, TIME Magazine, and Vogue. Her reporting and commentary span platforms, blending rigorous journalism with cultural fluency and lived experience.
A former Teach For America corps member, Natasha has also served as an Adjunct Assistant Professor of visual journalism at the Craig Newmark Graduate School of Journalism at CUNY. She holds degrees from Harvard University and Northwestern University’s Medill School of Journalism, and earned a Master of Public Policy from Princeton University, where she focused on domestic and urban policy.
In 2024, Natasha published her critically acclaimed memoir 'American Negra' (HarperCollins), which won an International Latino Book Award for Best First Book (Nonfiction). The book explores identity, resilience, and belonging across the Black diaspora. After being diagnosed with lupus at age 30, Natasha has also become a vocal health advocate, speaking candidly about leadership, wellness, and navigating chronic illness.
A dedicated community leader, Natasha serves as Board President of Joi’s Angels, a nonprofit based in East Orange, New Jersey.

Natasha led an incredible virtual presentation on memoir writing for The OpEd Project's monthly Expert Talk. Her presentation weaved practical advice with deeply personal anecdotes. She was nimble, answered questions from the audience thoroughly, and her slides were lovely.
