TLC is an American girl group formed in Atlanta, Georgia, in 1990. The trio consisted of Tionne "T-Boz" Watkins, Lisa "Left Eye" Lopes, and Rozonda "Chilli" Thomas. Their debut album, Ooooooohhh... On the TLC Tip, was released in 1992 and achieved quadruple-platinum status in the United States. The album featured hits like "Ain't 2 Proud 2 Beg" and "Baby-Baby-Baby," which showcased the group's unique blend of R&B, hip-hop, and new jack swing. In 1994, TLC released their second album, CrazySexyCool, which became their breakthrough project. The album was certified diamond by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA), making it the only album by a female group to achieve this status. It included chart-topping singles such as "Creep," "Red Light Special," and the iconic "Waterfalls," which addressed issues like HIV/AIDS awareness and safe sex. Tragically, Lisa "Left Eye" Lopes passed away in 2002. Despite this loss, T-Boz and Chilli continued to perform and record music as a duo. They released their fifth studio album, TLC, in 2017, which was funded through a Kickstarter campaign. The album received positive reviews and demonstrated the group's enduring influence in the music industry. Throughout their career, TLC has been recognized with numerous awards, including four Grammy Awards, five MTV Video Music Awards, and five Soul Train Music Awards. They have sold over 65 million records worldwide, making them one of the best-selling girl groups of all time. In 2022, TLC was inducted into the Black Music & Entertainment Walk of Fame, solidifying their legacy as pioneers in music and social advocacy.
