In 2002, Wambach was drafted by the Washington Freedom, kickstarting her professional career. Wambach's international career with the USWNT is marked by exceptional achievements. She played in four FIFA Women's World Cup tournaments (2003, 2007, 2011, 2015) and three Olympic Games (2004, 2008, 2012), winning two Olympic gold medals and one World Cup title in 2015. Known for her aerial prowess, strength, and leadership, Wambach was a key player in numerous critical matches, often scoring decisive goals. In addition to her on-field success, Wambach has been recognized with several individual awards, including the FIFA World Player of the Year in 2012. She has also won the U.S. Soccer Athlete of the Year award six times.
