Brett Goldstein is a British actor, comedian, writer, and producer, best known for his portrayal of Roy Kent in the Apple TV+ series Ted Lasso. Born in 1980 in Sutton, London, Goldstein began his creative journey at the University of Warwick, where he earned a degree in Film Studies. His early career included a stint in Marbella, Spain, working at a strip club his father purchased during a midlife crisis. This experience inspired his 2011 stand-up show, Brett Goldstein Grew Up in a Strip Club, which he performed at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival.
Goldstein's breakthrough came when he was hired as a writer for Ted Lasso. Feeling a deep connection to the character of Roy Kent, he submitted a self-taped audition, which led to his casting in the role. His performance earned him two Primetime Emmy Awards for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series. Beyond acting, Goldstein co-created the comedy series Shrinking with Jason Segel and Bill Lawrence, where he also serves as a writer and executive producer.
In addition to his television work, Goldstein is the host of the podcast Films to Be Buried With, where he engages guests in discussions about films that have had a significant impact on their lives. He has also ventured into the Marvel Cinematic Universe, making a cameo as Hercules in Thor: Love and Thunder. Goldstein's diverse talents extend to stand-up comedy, with his first HBO special, Brett Goldstein: The Second Best Night of Your Life, premiering in April 2025.
Known for his sharp wit and emotional depth, Goldstein continues to captivate audiences across various platforms, solidifying his place as a multifaceted entertainer in the entertainment industry.
