Bruce Bochy is one of the most accomplished managers in Major League Baseball history, known for his steady leadership and postseason success. Born on April 16, 1955, in Bussac-Forêt, France, where his father was stationed with the U.S. Army, Bochy grew up in various locations before settling in Melbourne, Florida. He played college baseball at Brevard Community College and was selected 24th overall by the Houston Astros in the 1975 MLB Draft. As a catcher, Bochy spent nine seasons in the majors with the Astros, Mets, and Padres, earning a reputation for his game-calling and leadership behind the plate.
After retiring as a player, Bochy transitioned into coaching and was named manager of the San Diego Padres in 1995. Over 12 seasons, he led the Padres to four division titles and their second-ever World Series appearance in 1998. In 2007, he took over as manager of the San Francisco Giants, guiding the team to three World Series championships in 2010, 2012, and 2014. Bochy initially retired after the 2019 season but returned to manage the Texas Rangers in 2023.
