Kenny Smith Speaker Profile: At A Glance
Kenny “The Jet” Smith is an American sports analyst, commentator, and former professional NBA player. Prior to his broadcasting career, Kenny played professional basketball for ten years in the NBA and won two World Championships with the Houston Rockets. And now, Kenny hosts Inside The NBA, one of the most exciting studio shows in sports television, alongside Charles Barkley and Ernie Johnson. Smith joined the broadcasting world in 1998 as a studio analyst for the NBA playoffs and continues to appear on NBA TV to this day.
Kenny Smith is an NBA studio analyst for the Emmy Award-winning show Inside the NBA, which will air on ABC/ESPN starting with the 2025-26 season. The show aired on TNT since its inception. He appears each week during the NBA season and throughout the playoffs to form one of the most entertaining studio shows in sports television. Kenny is also a main studio analyst for the NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament on CBS
Sports and Turner.
In January of 2021, Kenny received the 16th annual National Civil Rights Museum Sports Legacy Award for his dedication and significant contributions to civil and human rights, the social justice movement, and for laying the foundation for future leaders through their careers in sports. In the spring of 2015, Kenny and his family starred in their own reality TV show on TBS called The Smiths.
Kenny won two NBA championships with the Houston Rockets in 1994 and 1995. He played 10 seasons in the NBA for the Sacramento Kings, Atlanta Hawks, Houston Rockets, Detroit Pistons, Orlando Magic and Denver Nuggets. He was named a member of the NBA All-Rookie Team in 1988.
Kenny played basketball at the University of North Carolina and graduated in 1987 with a degree in Industrial Relations. He also holds a basketball camp each year in Chapel Hill.
With an entrepreneurial spirit and drive, Kenny currently runs the Kenny Smith Entertainment Group, a sports and entertainment events company. In addition, he launched the Jet Academy, which provides basketball camps for kids.
In May 2023, Kenny released his first book, Talk of Champions: Stories of the People Who Made Me: A Memoir, in which he reveals memorable inside stories of his playing and broadcasting careers, focusing on the star players, coaches, and mentors who
inspired him along the way.
Kenny resides with his family in Los Angeles, California.
