Bjarke Ingels, born on October 2, 1974, in Copenhagen, Denmark, is a distinguished architect renowned for his innovative and sustainable designs. Initially aspiring to be a cartoonist, Ingels redirected his creative talents towards architecture, earning his diploma from the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts in 1999. He further honed his expertise during a year at the Escola Tècnica Superior d’Arquitectura in Barcelona. His professional journey began at the Office for Metropolitan Architecture (OMA) in Rotterdam, where he collaborated with Rem Koolhaas from 1998 to 2001. Four years later, he established Bjarke Ingels Group (BIG), which has since expanded to offices in New York, London, and Barcelona. Notable projects include the 8 House and Mountain Dwellings in Copenhagen, the VIA 57 West residential building in New York City, and the Amager Bakke waste-to-energy plant, which features a ski slope on its roof. The firm's innovative approach has earned them prestigious accolades, such as the Aga Khan Award for Architecture in 2016 for the Superkilen park in Copenhagen. Ingels' contributions extend beyond architecture; he is a passionate advocate for sustainable urban development. In 2015, he co-founded the design group KiBiSi, focusing on urban mobility and product design. His commitment to education is evident through his roles as a visiting professor at esteemed institutions like Harvard, Yale, Columbia, and Rice University. In 2016, TIME magazine recognized him as one of the 100 most influential people globally.
