Margaret Heffernan Speaker Profile: At A Glance

In her groundbreaking work, Heffernan examines the social, psychological, neurological and organizational reasons why it is so hard to know what is going on in your company, your industry and your world. She explores why some people seem to be able to see better than others and what makes some organizations perspicacious. As a former CEO herself and the author of Willful Blindness: Why We Ignore the Obvious at Our Peril, she knows that crises are rarely provoked by the proverbial bad apple, but by factors hidden to the leaders of an organization. She also explores the processes that can make your organization smart, resilient and successful.

Dr. Margaret Heffernan is a renowned author, speaker, and executive mentor with a distinguished career spanning media, technology, and leadership development. For 13 years, she produced programs for the BBC before transitioning to the United States, where she led multimedia initiatives for Intuit, The Learning Company, and Standard & Poor’s. She served as Chief Executive of InfoMation Corporation, ZineZone Corporation, and iCast Corporation. Her work earned her recognition as one of the “Top 25” by Streaming Media magazine and one of the “Top 100 Media Executives” by The Hollywood Reporter. Margaret has authored five acclaimed books, including Willful Blindness: Why We Ignore the Obvious at our Peril, which the Financial Times named one of the most important business books of the decade. Her book A Bigger Prize: Why Competition Isn't Everything and How We Do Better won the Transmission Prize in 2015 and was praised for its meticulous research and universal relevance. Her TED talks, viewed by over eight million people, have established her as a thought leader on organizational behavior and leadership. In 2015, TED published her book Beyond Measure: The Big Impact of Small Changes, which explores the transformative power of incremental improvements. As Lead Faculty for the Forward Institute's Responsible Leadership Programme and a mentor through Merryck & Co., Margaret works closely with CEOs and senior executives of major global organizations. She also writes for the Financial Times and holds an honorary doctorate from the University of Bath. Margaret’s work continues to inspire leaders to challenge conventional thinking and foster innovation in their organizations.
