Davis, MD, Distinguished Chair and serves as a Professor of Emergency Medicine at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai. Dr. Carr assumed the CEO role in 2024, bringing over two decades of experience in emergency medicine and health policy. Under his leadership, Mount Sinai encompasses eight hospitals, the Icahn School of Medicine, and more than 400 ambulatory locations and physician practices. Dr. Carr's academic journey began with a Bachelor of Science in psychology and a Master of Arts in Clinical Psychology from Loyola University Maryland. He earned his medical degree from Temple University School of Medicine and completed his residency in emergency medicine at the University of Pennsylvania. Furthering his expertise, he pursued fellowships in trauma and surgical critical care, as well as the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation Clinical Scholars Program at the University of Pennsylvania. Additionally, he holds a Master of Science in Health Policy Research. Before joining Mount Sinai, Dr. Carr served on the faculty at the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania and as Associate Dean of the Sidney Kimmel Medical College at Thomas Jefferson University in Philadelphia. His leadership extended to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, where he focused on improving trauma and emergency care delivery nationwide. He has been instrumental in building regional systems of emergency care, particularly for trauma, stroke, cardiac arrest, and sepsis, and developing innovative delivery system solutions to create a more distributed and accessible acute-care delivery system. Dr. Carr is a member of the National Academy of Medicine, a distinction recognizing outstanding professional achievement and commitment to service. He has authored over 150 peer-reviewed publications and has secured research funding from prestigious institutions such as the National Institutes of Health, the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and various foundations. His research specializes in systems of care for trauma, stroke, cardiac arrest, and sepsis. Known for his resilience and pragmatic approach, Dr. Carr emphasizes the importance of steady, incremental change in healthcare.
