Mike Huckabee Speaker Profile: At A Glance

Michael Dale Huckabee is an American politician and Christian minister who served as the 44th governor of Arkansas from 1996 to 2007. He was a candidate in the United States Republican presidential primaries in both 2008 and 2016.He is the host of the talk show Huckabee, which ran on the Fox News Channel from 2008–2015, and currently runs on the Trinity Broadcasting Network, simulcast on Newsmax TV. He paused the show in January 2015 in order to explore a potential bid for the presidency. From April 2012 through December 2013, he hosted a daily radio program, The Mike Huckabee Show, on weekday afternoons for Cumulus Media Networks.

Michael Dale Huckabee was born on August 24, 1955, in Hope, Arkansas. He began his career in ministry after completing a bachelor's degree in religion from Ouachita Baptist University and briefly attending Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary. Huckabee served as pastor at several churches in Arkansas, where he also initiated local television stations to broadcast religious and community-oriented content. Huckabee's political career took off in 1993 when he was elected Lieutenant Governor of Arkansas. He became Governor in 1996 following the resignation of Jim Guy Tucker and was re-elected in 1998 and 2002. During his tenure, Huckabee implemented significant education reforms and public health initiatives, including the Healthy Arkansas program, inspired by his personal health transformation where he lost over 100 pounds. In 2008, Huckabee ran for the Republican presidential nomination, winning the Iowa caucuses and several other states, but ultimately lost to John McCain. He made another bid in 2016 but withdrew early after a poor performance in the Iowa caucuses. Despite these setbacks, Huckabee remained a prominent figure in conservative politics, frequently contributing to Fox News and hosting his own shows. Huckabee has authored numerous books and remains active in public speaking and commentary. His daughter, Sarah Huckabee Sanders, followed in his political footsteps, becoming the Governor of Arkansas and previously serving as the White House Press Secretary under President Donald Trump.
